I've seriously considered getting this bag for a home base for all my gear when you're fishing from a boat or fishing canyon sections and returning to the truck often. To read more about this award winning bag, check out the Sage website.
The challenge and exhilaration of dry fly and sight fishing in BC steelhead rivers.

A Man To Look Up To--Patagonia's Yvan Chouinard
If my small business ever gets me in to a decent financial position, I look to follow in the environmental footsteps of business owners like Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia. Check out this Wall Street Journal article on him.

Two Wild Summer Runs Return--Both Male
Reduce. Abuse. Recycle.
As in reduce habitat, abuse the fishery, and hopefully recycle the government that approved this project. Check out the articles in The Globe and Mail and The Times Colonist about the imminent approval (insider information?) and eventually approval of the Kokish River power project by The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
Two More, No More
When the history of dams on wild steelhead, trout and salmon runs is so horrible, this project should never have been approved. Take a dammed summer run steelhead river like the Puntledge, which eventually had a season where two wild summer run steelhead returned--both of which were male. We're slowly moving toward endangerment and extinction of these wild fish stocks working from south to north. The US endangered and extinct lists for wild stocks is huge compared to Canada's and now Canada is apparently looking to catch up. I have little doubt we'll move from three to two healthy summer run steelhead rivers on Vancouver Island's east coast given this new power project approval. Sad but true.

Monster New Zealand Browns
Not only quality, but quantity of quality... if you know what I mean? Now that I think of it, all those debates about quality versus quantity have just been solved with ... all of the above.

Spit Da Hook
A very good sized fish throws the hook mid jump. Can anybody decipher the slow mo audio response of the videographer???
Atlantic Salmon--Restigouche/Matapedia Edition
I'm guessing these fish are outmigrating kelts by the shape of them.

Canyon Fly Fishing
Incredible canyon scenery with 300 days of sunshine annually .... could use a bit of that about now.
Wild Steelhead versus Hatchery Steelhead
Some great footage in this sequence. It also trumpets my personal belief system of improving habitat for wild fish. This also requires that hatchery fish are phased out to allow the wild fish to fully recover. Hatchery fish just mask problems while creating more problems for wild fish. You can only shoot an injured warrior up on drugs for so long before the underlying problems work their way to the surface.
The Ultimate Wading Backpack
A few things my ultimate backpack would have are the ability to secure the bag high enough for the deep wading that most steelheaders do. It would also have clips in the front to secure a chest pack for quick access to tippet, pliers, etc. And finally, it needs to be water proof. This bag looks fairly well thought out. but does not yet meet all my main criteria. If it meets all yours, it might be worth a look.

Scotland Atlantic Salmon
The birthplace of spey fishing seems a great place for an Atlantic Salmon fishing video.
Sight Fishing Fortress Lake Brook Trout
Trout closing on double digit pound range in sight fishing scenarios--chaaa!
Monster New Zealand Browns
Nearly all dry fly and all sight fishing, there's some incredible footage here from Dave and Amelia Jensen. I'm on a Jensen fly fishing kick today and you should be too. Enjoy!

Sight Fishing For Trout
Dave and Amelia Jensen from Alberta, Canada teach how to spot, stalk, and catch trout. And from past clips I've seen of their's, they'll teach it while showing you some monster trout.
Sight fishing combines the excitement of the hunt with the rest of a typical fishing situation. Planning the approach and seeing the take are actually my favourite parts of the overall experience. This video may be worth the clams if you feel similarly.

Difficult--Very, Very Edition
From what I hear, Permit are one of the most difficult fish in the sea when it comes to getting them to eat. When you see this many shots in front of you and still come up empty handed, I can believe it. This is when you probably blame the guide for giving you a lousy fly...and the guide probably blames you for being a noob.

Belize Bonefish And Permit
For you die hard fly fishers, the spinning rod gets put away fairly quickly. There's some neat underwater footage in this piece. I especially like the hermit crab.

Depuy Spring Creek--Montana Trout
Look at that. Just after I post the Simms Rogue Fleece Hoody review, Detonation Studios shows it in action on a cold, blustery day. Check it out at the 3:30 mark. The video's pretty good as well.
Sweet Simms Hoody--Rogue Fleece Hoody
I bought the Rogue Fleece Hoody from Simms recently. I liked the looks of it so much I hesitated to get it fishy for a while and got lots of compliments from friends on its look. However, I eventually wore it for winter trout and steelhead fishing. When the temperature dips, you just pull the hoody up over your toque. The extra warmth to your head and especially your neck makes this hoody awesome for keeping warm in chilly climates. This is my favourite item from this year's Simms purchases. Reviewers on the Simms website also seem to like it, rating it at 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Colorado's South Platte--Eleven Mile Canyon
The fishing is very good but I'd have to say the rock formations and scenery may be even better in this area.
What's SPRINGing up in Montana
The Headhunters Fly Shop boys are at it again--early season fishing for Montana trout. They also look to be crossing fly fishing with rugby league judging by the wealth of sponsor patches emblazoned across the jacket.
Utah Brownies
If you want to promote something in the fishing realm, like your guide service, the best way always seems to be showing a video of some sweet fishing. These boys seem to have hit the nail on the head, as did yesterday's post.

dry or DIE
It appears our friend Rolf is digging that grave. The New Zealand trout seem to be saying no to the dry for toooooo long.
Rolf Nylinder Off The Water
The Frontside Fly crew is pretty well known in dry fly fishing videography circles. This is what one of the crew, Rolf Nylinder, really has a passion for away from the river.

Utah's Green River Browns
For me, great fisheries often have a scenic element to add to their fishiness. This footage easily qualifies.

Steelhead Nymphing
Seems to be a ton of hatchery steelhead available in this locale. Not my favourite type of place to fish but the action is faaast.

Anticipating
When winter causes the fish to be tight mouthed or the river's closed, you prepare, you plan, you anticipate.
