Heli Fishing New Zealand's Big Browns

Not sure if the same will happen to you but this piece froze after a couple minutes on me.  The first two minutes alone are worth watching.  If you manage to see more, bonus!

Frontside Fly on Tour--Aitutaki Bonefish

Da boys are still on tour...or is it on tour again.  These boys seem to know how to have fun on their fishing trips and it shows through in their videos.  Enjoy.

Sweet Tune and Poon

Politicians, Listen Up

Maybe the folks making the decisions about Bristol Bay in the US or Run of River power in Canada could use a good wake-up call.  Have them watch this rant and then have them think back to when the National Park System was set up by a former president.

Trip of a Lifetime Gone All Wrong

Water Proof Fishing Jackets

Ride Out The Storm
Staying out on the water in a deluge can bring amazing results.  You're often the only one willing to tough it out and the fish will turn on to boot.  If you plan to ride out the storm, a good rain jacket is a must.

Tried and True Jacket Designers
A couple of fishing specific jacket makers that have more than proven themselves are Simms and Patagonia.  I've yet to own a Simms jacket but their jackets seem to be donned by many a hard core fisher, and that is a great sign of their quality.  I've owned a few Patagonia jackets over the years and they're also very good.  I prefer the deep wading design jackets.  They don't double as a trendy wear around town jacket but I don't mind staying home if the weather's nasty when I need a few groceries.

New Release
Patagonia has just released a new jacket design dubbed the River Salt jacket.  This jacket is made from their wader material.  If the material keeps you dry fully submerged as a wader it should definitely keep you dry above the water's surface as well.

Montana Style Bachelor Party

For a group of fishing buddies, there can't be many better places to go for a bachelor party. Personally, I'd far rather go somewhere unpolluted than get polluted on a BP.

Merino Wool Sale 30% Off--Icebreaker

Gotta say, I love merino wool.  I have some polypro items with lots of miles on them that seem to pack a fair stench after rehydrating with only minor sweat on any new outing.  Merino wool doesn't suffer from this same problem.  I've been wearing a merino wool long sleeve zip-T the last couple seasons and it's been awesome.  It provides a wicking layer to keep you comfortable under breathable waders.

Icebreaker is having a 30% off sale on merino wool items right now so if you need some click on through to their site.

If I'm correct, the Golden Gate Casting and Angling Club hosts the fly casting world championships every year.  Here's a bit of the club's story from beginner through advanced.

High End Fly Rods

Burkheimer fly rods are respected as much as Sage's top end rods.  Kerry Burkheimer, the man behind the line of rods, has a passion for dry line steelheading much like myself.  He's even mentioned in Bill McMillan's book "Dry Line Steelhead" which had a big influence on the way I choose to pursue steelhead.

Do You Fish on First Dates?

Does your dad own a brewery?

Famed lines from artist KBW who's songs were a favourite of a rugby buddy back in college.  Politically correct his lyrics are not, but the latter of the two lines I've used in my title and first sentence is unedited by myself and seems to reflect the sentiment of the owners of Spokane, Washington's Dry Fly Distillery.

By the way the title of this blog entry was definitely edited from the song's true lyrics.

Hard Fighting Atlantic Salmon

Sonic Welded Waders

I believe Redington was the first company to roll out sonic welding in waders.  Sonic welding eliminates needle holes which compromise the water proof barrier of the wader.  It appears Orvis is now following suit.

Correction:  Apparently Orvis was first and has patented the technology for sonic welding of wader seams.  Redington has licensed the technology from Orvis to manufacture their Sonic Pro line.

Working the Seam

Or shall we say, working the Siem.  Jerry Siem that is, rod designer for Sage.  Jerry talks about the design ideas that went in to the new CIRCA rod series.  The goal was to mimic the feel of bamboo or glass while sneaking in the performance advantages of graphite.

I've always wanted to try fishing a bamboo rod but save a few casts many, many years back, I haven't had the opportunity.  I'd still like to spend some time with a bamboo rod in my hands but these CIRCA rods might be even better.

Max Cast--Hydrophobicity/HolidayWhoBeWhatee?

Believe me, Simon Gawesworth will probably outcast you with a spaghetti noodle.  But if RIO's claims are everything they say, it will probably be well worth picing up a MaxCast line.

RIO's UniSpey--High Def Edition

RIO has just released a video piece highlighting their new UniSpey Fly Line options.  They've also released a number of helpful pieces in the past which were in the video quality of the day but are still well worth checking out.  This most recent piece is in high definition and much nicer to watch.  Check out the new line.

The title will make sense when you near the end of this vid.

Summer Fishing

When the days get smokin hot, wet wading becomes a great option to beat the summer heat.  I haven't run into these wet wading neoprene socks from Simms yet but they look like they'd make the boots fit just right.  The wet wading segment is in the latter half of this video blog post.
